Centering
Pilates principle number 4.
Joseph Pilates believed that the core muscles function as the 'powerhouse' for the whole of the body.
The abdominals are centre and they initiate every movement.
But the core muscles comprise of an equal balance of strength between the abs and the back muscles.
A strong ore provides a strong and stable base from which the rest of the limbs can move.
Remember it's equal abs and back - think of the core as a corset not just your tummy!
